Our Story is one of Love, Smoke, & BBQ that all started with a soda pop after a junior high ball game at our hometown's local pizza shop PizzaMingo (PT12's Now Location) and turned high school sweethearts into a restaurant power couple here in Southern West Virginia.
Chef Karie is a 2011 Gilbert High Alumni, 2016 Carver Culinary Graduate, and former Executive Chef at the Sleepy Hollow Golf Club. She has made a name for herself amongst chefs throughout West Virginia being named the American Culinary Federation West Virginia Chapter (ACF WV) Student of the Year in 2016, Runner Up Best Chef in West Virginia in 2019, and a 2022 West Virginia Chef Ambassadors. Cameron Ellis is a 2010 Gilbert High Alumni and opened Trail 12 BBQ in April of 2016. It quickly becoming recognized for it's great smoked foods, winning multiple awards including Best sandwich & Best BBQ in the Coalfields multiple years in a row.
Chef Karie and Cameron met for the first time in 2005 at what was Pizzamingo, now the location of PT12. They were together on and off throughout their time in high school but like most high school relationships that was the extent, with them breaking up in the summer of 2009 and going their own ways in life. However, after over 8 years of being apart in the summer of 2017 a recent Culinary Graduate now Executive Chef came to critique her then Ex Boyfriends hole in the wall BBQ restaurant that was getting rave reviews around the area and the rest is our history. Chef Karie moved back to her home town the fall of that year and took over Trail 12 BBQ and operated it onsite at Twin Hollow Campground from 2017-2022 being named Best BBQ in WV in 2019 along with Best WV Style Hotdogs in the Hatfield McCoy Region and #2 in the state! On May 1st 2023 Chef Karie purchased PizzaMingo est. 1984 from the original owners and combining it with Trail 12 BBQ her new Signature Restaurant PT12 was born.
